Pineberry
« on: March 31, 2010, 20:17 »
The Telegraph ran a story on anaemic-looking strawberries called 'pineberries' that taste a bit like pineapple. One of the big supermarkets is going to be pushing them as the next big thing, but at a non-offer price of £3.99 for 125g I'll probably give them a miss (they're a bit cheaper for the first fortnigt or so)

Anyway, has anybody tried them? and more importantly has anybody tried growing them in the UK? Worth growing? Where do you get plants? etc.

I read about these in a trade mag a while ago.  They are a premium Dutch glasshouse crop and they reckon they are going to make the growers a lot of dosh if they catch on - mind you at £3.99 for 125g they are going to have to be good

They are a South American plant so I don't think they are going to be viable outdoors here.
