Onion Sets
« on: November 02, 2008, 10:04 »
After a few back braking days of digging I have a corner of my new plot , dug over , manured , weed free and all raked and hoed over.

I have some onion sets , shallots and garlic which all say plant November/December.

I am really wanting to put these in , just so I have something trying to grown , whilst I continue clearing my plot.... it will help keep my spirits up!

My soil is really quite clayie , I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put a bit of sand in the bottom of each drill when I plant the bulbs later on this week?

I realise that the best advice will be not to plant anything , but I'm so enthusiastic I just can't wait until spring!

Keep smilin' Sal  :)
The sun is always shining .... somewhere!

Get 'em in   :D  my soils quite heavy going too, but they seem to grow fine without the addition of sand, don't think it would hurt tho'.

Nothing quite like having something growing to give you encouragement and to keep you going

Best advice from me would be to plant, plant, plant!  There isn't much you can put it at this time of year but it really does keep the spirits up to see things growing.  Onions and garlic is a great idea, although they are quite slow!

How about some broad beans if you have the room?
