spindly runner beans with flowers
« on: July 06, 2008, 16:03 »
i have runner beans in my raised bed, they are'nt very leafy or bushy, but some have flowers on, right at the bottom - shall i leave them to it or do something (what?) about it.  All the plants are quite spindly, although climbing the poles too

Just wondered if all is ok with them or what
just keep breathing................

Don't worry too much titch, mine look like that, but as they grow they thicken up too, and I don't feed mine as they've got a 1ft layer of well seasoned chook manure under them!

Hi Titch, mine also look like that, but only 1 or 2 tiny flower buds. As it's my first year growing I've got my fingers crossed and am waiting patiently...

(...yeah right, I'm up at the plot at every available opportunity having a look to see if anything's grown, changed etc!   )

Hi Tich,

Mine just sat there really sad for 4 weeks doing nothing, then they took off.
Mine are just like yours, very little leaf growth, guess it must be a 'weather thing'  :?

No need to worry.
They always look to be lacking leaves early on but once they climb you'll get plenty of leaves on and even more flowers.

Give it a month and you'll be sick of eating beans
