Title: Couch Grass
Post by: mjg000 on March 31, 2015, 10:55
John Harrison has mentioned this recently on Twitter....

If you wish to clear Couch Grass from your plot completely, plant troubled area with turnip seed, the couch will soon wither & die

Anybody here tried this?

No, but I'm sure I heard this before - or was it swedes? I need to give it a try as it just keeps coming back in my raised beds no matter how much I dig out.

Real challenge for me is the damn couch is in the grass paths. Suppose I could plant the whole plot with turnips and make turnip wine!....Tasty? Eh!

Cheers HH

I have tried it and did not find that the CG withered and died BUT it stop it advancing. The recommendation that I saw was to sow the turnip very thickly so you don't get a very usable crop.
