Green bean growing tips dying
« on: June 30, 2015, 19:45 »
Hi guys,

The growing tips of my French beans are dying on every plant.

They are in the polytunnel and well watered and ventilated.

Any ideas?

When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

The pictures are too out of focus to get a good look. Are any bugs present? Are the tips touching the plastic sides of the tunnel?

Try holding the camera further from the subject when taking a pic or if your camera has a macro setting, use that.

If the leaves are speckled as well as bleached it could be red spider mite; if not, then maybe sun scald.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Is it common for the newest tender growth to get fried under glass/plastic?

It really depends on how big your greenhouse is because bigger ones usually have more windows and a louvre vent for ventilation so reducing temps. Is has been very hot so try damping down the floor with water.

They definitely look a little off color, but from what I can see from the pictures, it doesn't look like they're going crispy and dry. Do the plants die back soon after the tips change color?
