Un well chicken
« on: December 13, 2010, 09:55 »
Good morning all,

I have an unwell chicken, she is quiet, standing on her own on one leg and hunched. She laid an egg yesterday which was fine but doesn't seem to have perked up over night. Any advice would be great.

Is she still eating and drinking ? When was she last wormed? Is she running a temperture you do this by feeling under her wing and comparing it with another girl. Is her breathng normal or does it sound rattle does she have a runny nose and bubbling eyes. If the answer to these questions is yes then she needs to see a vet. Hope this is some help.

Temp seems fine, no runny nose, eyes bright. tail is down tho. She hasn't eaten since being indoors. She was wormed just before getting her which was in august and we have cider vinegar in their water. Breathing is fine.

She has started to show more interest in her surroundings now. we have booked an appointment with the vet for today so hopefully will get some answers.

Hi all,

Update on Freda the unwell chicken.

The vet checked her over and she is slightly under weight which is a worry as there is food down all the time and they have mash every afternoon, other than that her feathers are glossy, wattle and comb are red and healthy but she found that her proventriculus ( true stomach) felt doughy, so she's had a shot of antibiotics, got to be kept her indoors and then back on Wednesday for a check up to see if its cleared.

If not, its x-rays and maybe having her stomach flushed!

I'm hoping she picks up really as i'd like to not have to much done at the vets!

Will update on Wednesday.

Thanks for your concern.
