Conifer replacement
« on: May 05, 2016, 15:48 »
The dwarf one by my postbox has succumb to cypress aphid  :( Id like to replace with something more robust.

Looking for ideas on something..

Height - 3-4ft, Spread - 2-3ft, Evergreen , Dense. North / West facing, Sandy - poor neutral soil. No thorns - otherwise the postie will moan.  :nowink:

I have a couple of variegated euonymus cuttings spare if all else fails, but they don't grown particularly quickly here.

What about a Choisya or an Escallonia.  Both are fast growing and can be trimmed into shape, plus cope with sandy soil and varying amounts of shade.   A hebe would be OK there as well.
