Title: Pruning a small pinus conifer
Post by: Goosegirl on May 19, 2014, 13:13
A few years ago, I bought a lovely dwarf conifer belonging to the Pinus family. Unfortunately, it is growing more than the label said it should and I need to trim it back or it will overtake its allotted place. Any advice on how, where and when to do it?

The new 'candle growth' can be pinched right back, but try not to cut far back into old wood as it may not re-grow.

if any branches are out of proportion they can be cut out completely with no harm, as long as it does not make the tree look unsightly of course

Thanks for that, Sunshine. Only last week I managed to find a site that said about pinching out the candles - wish I'd known that before.
