Well Ive already put it on my lot and its about a couple of weeks old. The reson I did is because I watched the BBC victorian Farmer. The woman used it straight from the chimney on the roses to keep black spot at bay.

I will let you know my results.

old time thing told to me from my grandad, who to befair was a first class veg grower,,
I still use it! leave it for about 6 months or more if you can then I put it all around the edge of my plot/garden and it dramatically reduces any snails slugs ect,, so much so that I very rarely get any damage to my veg from snails/slugs,, though I dont but it on anything direct.

D'yu surround your entire plot with soot? :ohmy:

yep!

around the outside edge,,  edge of my plot has a small fence and the soot goes on the outside of this, as I live in a small village without gas the majority of house have real fires so endlessamounts of soot if I need it.

i don,t use a massive amount,, prob 6 bucket fulls a year! just pour it from the bucket all the way around!

from what i understand the snails slugs dislike the feeling when trying to slime acoss it so give up.

but i thought that slugs were already underground ??? didn't think they had to come to the surface to get anywhere (only to eat my lettuce >:()
