While I'm sitting here, watching the rain falling day after day, I might as well do something constructive!
I thought I'd make some fancy little seed labels.... bit of spare wood, painted and decorated with paints or pens. I thought the girls could help out!
Thinking about it though I'm sure I read somewhere that you can't use gloss/emulsion type paints cos it would get into the ground and into the veg. :? (I knew this thinking lark wasn't good for you! )
Is this true or shall I break open the dulux tomorrow :!: :?:
-
Tosh  break out the dulux, now if your tipping a gallon or two that may be different.
Make em out of tomato puree tubes too... look like posh copper tags if you do it right :D
-
Just what I wanted to hear... thanks Rich :D
Now I just need to find a recipe that call for gallons of tomato puree!
-
How does that work RR? Surely tubes are too bendy.

When its empty cut off the bottom and the top, cut up one side and open it up you'll find its a lovely coppery colour inside.
Give it a good wash, roll it nice and flat I use a spoon to smooth it out.
Cut out into label shapes make sure you don't cut out over the fold else it falls to bits
Write on it with a biro and it will make an indent which never wears off, You can put a hole in it and tie it to the plant. :D

if your smart like me then you dont need labels :?

I am as smart as you mate  cant wait to see if it is chard or beetroot  . I have started to re-cycle milk cartons, we get big uns so I now cut m up and write on them.

hell of a pair of eyes on that cat

Richi that is a brilliant idea and I use loads of tomato home made and bought so instead of binning the tubes I would be recycling in a positive way. Oh I've come over all angelic

Ditto Aidy, I cut up some of my milk cartons for labels too, but also keep a lot to hold excess water from the overflowing water butts!!!!

I go to the resale shop and look for aluminum slat blinds. I cut them off the string stuff, and cut the slats into 3-4" slices and use special non fading garden marker to label things. Avoid the plastic as UV rays break down the plastic in 2 yrs. Other than the dog running off with the dratted labels, they've worked well for me.
