Raspberries
« on: September 25, 2008, 13:20 »
I have some Raspberries growing on my plot, which are fruiting in abundance (loads).

I want fruit for the summer and fruit for now, so I want to cut some soon for summer and some later for this time next year.

When should I cut them down.

 :D
Thanks

The ones that are producing now are Autumn rasberries and should be cut down late winter [JAN/fEB]
If you want a summer crop you need to purchase them, not sure if they are available now or not.
If you have an abundance I wish I was nearer

i think the rule of thumb for either sort is to cut down any after fruiting. That way you won't cut the wrong ones.

Autumn fruiting fruit on this year's growth. Summer fruiting on last year's.

If you don't want to spend and can't get some spare summer canes, you can do as PG says, and  treat a bunch of your autumn fruiters as for summer ones and leave canes in for second year and see what amount of fruit you get. They are also called perpetual.

Don't blame me if you don't get much fruit though.
