Its been a difficult year for growing over here Beekissed, so I'm not sure how many could enter.  Barring a late disaster, I should have an entry, but we'll have to see if anyone else chimes in  :)

I didn't start a competition thread, just because growing weather started so late for us this year, as NS says.

Let's see if enough people have had success to make it worth while.

Maybe we could do the smallest pumpkin contest!      I would have maybe won that one last year...and probably could have some entries this year too.

Bad year over here too, with reports from all areas and compass points of really bad gardens across the board.  I don't think there was anything in my garden that grew properly except the chives.  I travel across my state twice a month and get to see gardens all along the way and haven't seen a good one yet...and usually there are places where I always admire and envy the garden as I drive by, but this year everyone is having the same year....bad.   :(

I've attached a pic of my pumpkins. Very happy with these. Didn't know there was a national problem with squash this year! Without blowing my own trumpet, I didn't do anything special with these, simply sowed the seed and harvested! Two plants, five pumpkins! Very chuffed!  :D :D

After a terrible start, mine have put a real spurt on.  So far I have, from one plant each:

9 x Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato
3 x Musquee de Provence
3 x Flat White Boer
1 x Winter Luxury
2 x Munchkin

None of those are whoppers for the largest pumpkin competition, I don't grow Atlantic etc. but there are some really pretty specimens - for once!

Not sure many will see this in the general gardening thread.  I couldn't find it in grow your own where it usually is and had to do a search to find this thread.

Here's a pic of my biggest so far...I doubt if any of the others will achieve its size.  It's a 35# Rouge Vif D'Etampes, which is pretty normal size for that type of pumpkin, from all I've read.  That plant is still producing and has been the best plant in the garden this season....has grown out further than 25 ft. in all directions, climbed the fence, climbed some ladders, etc.

Here is my Winter Luxury Pumpkin.
Some different varieties still to come, although slugs have decimated my smallest Musquee de Provence overnight. Swines.

Here is another one from the plot.  This time a Flat White Boer, with thanks to Surbie who put the seed in this year's seed circle.
I was going to leave it on the vine a little longer to ripen, and also leave a bigger stalk to improve curing, but the plant had other ideas. I went to lift it on to a piece of slate to prevent rotting and it just came away.

Lost the smallest Flat White Boer to more slugs.

Still got 2 Munchkins, 2 Musquee de Provence and now 11 Thelma Sanders sweet potato still on the plot.

Here are today's squashes!

A Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato (there are another 9 still on one plant!) plus three crookneck summer squash.   Not pumpkins of course, but I thought they looked pretty.

Like maddave, squash have done well for me this year (in the end).

Nice pumpkin but even nicer cat lol. She is the image of our last cat Effie when she was young and we still miss her every day. Lovely to see what looked like a photo of her spring up in a very unexpected place, Beekissed!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I have a couple more Munchkin pumpkins than I thought.
Here they are with some more summer not winter squash that appeared in the undergrowth.

I think the largest of my Musquee de Provence will be my biggest pumpkin this year, but they are still on the vine and have some way to go before they are ripe.

That's a good 'un DD!  I'll photograph a couple of ours later when the mist clears and I can find my way to the plot lol
