flooring?
« on: May 28, 2012, 16:11 »
just completed the green house build, 6x10 polycarb one,
we have put ground cover down to prevent weeds coming thru but are not sure what would be best to put ontop of it- shuckies, bark etc?
we dont plan to have beds inside it, more pots and growbags.
many thanks
these 2 take all my time, whatever is left the veggies get, poor hubby is at the end of the queue.

are you looking to put bark onto just to stop weeds or to protect the sheeting? our polytunnel is just lined with weed fabric and never had any weeds or damage  :D

We have bark on top of fabric, mainly for aesthetic reasons. :D In theory though, it could be wetted down if you wished to create humidity. The same could be said for stone chips, which would probably do a better job of this and also act a bit of a heat sink. :)

just wasnt sure what people put on their floors :D
think i'll just leave it as it is for now then.
ground cover will stop the weeds fine, will see how the first year goes then decide.
however i think husband will need to do a better job at leveling it out better, looks a bit like a mini bmx track at the moment :D

go for gravel if the floors a bit wonky.  Also is good for levelling and securing pots in.  Just push them down and give a twist and they'll stay put even on an uneven surface.  The gravel acts a a heat sink (storing the heat and releasing over the night) and is good for damping down
