That's OK  :)  Oranutangs are well known for their abiding love of homegrown sweetcorn and cannot be expected to have perfect table manners whilst devouring the first cob of the season   ;)

Definitely Mmmmmmmmm!  (hopefully the first of many in the next week or so!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Picked 2 cobs and a confused tassel last night. Even a little under-ripe they are voted the best thing I have grown so far... :D

My first Swift cob - looking well filled, picked 10 minutes ago - will be cooked very shortly, and eaten to the accompaniment of some salt, pepper, butter and some very unbecoming yum-yum noises from YT hopefully!

My daughter actually told me off, because every mouthful I ate I made a Mmm noise I didn't even realise  :nowink:
And I thought it waas just me that made that noise! This year's Swift have been really long too. If I cut one in half, it would equal a full-sized one from the shops.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Thanks everyone, I picked up really good tips from you.  JayG, you are very close to me and your corn looks great!  I think I will take a closer look at the one cob I have previously checked; I have definitely not peeled the leaves back enough.

Thanks again!  :)

examined the top of one of mine today as tassles brown. looked quite pale inside but think will pick one to test out.  am really surprised as most plants look to have two cobs. never grown sweetcorn before  :)
