Any dog owners.. advice please?
« on: July 21, 2019, 17:36 »
My son is (all going well) moving to a house where currently several dogs live. I am sure the owners would remove any faeces but the question is about dog urine

If dogs wee in the garden a lot, is it safe to children to play in afterwards and if not, how can it be made safe please?

As you can probably tell, I know not a lot about keeping dogs as pets!!

Thank you in advance for your response  :)

Doggie wee should not be a problem with humans,  but dog poo on grass can be more serious as it can transmit  parasites into the grass,   which very very rarely can cause harm, in that it can cause blindness.
I have bred and shown dogs for many years, and also been a dog host.
Meanwhile, I do not wish to cause scare and upset.   Breeders normally keep dogs in runs so that they can be scrubbed daily with a disinfectant such as Jeyes Fluid.
It is question of simple hygiene really, after the garden a good wash of hands and face will do the trick.  Maybe your son could section off a dog free area for the children to play in.
Again sorry to be the bearer of this news, but it has to be kept in perspective.  Most people I know have dogs, chick, ducks, horses etc, and children or grandchildren and just get on with life.    I am sure all will be ok.    Mrs Bouquet

Thank you Mrs B.

The only reason I asked is because we know nothing about dogs really, and the garden of their new house has been home to several dogs for some years. Their little girl is a very outdoors" child, is perfectly sensible on the plots for example.

It was a precautionary question he asked me... and I didn't know the answer. I do now, so thank you  :D :D :D
