Runner bean rust
« on: August 17, 2021, 14:23 »
Hi
Been a subscriber to the site forever but never joined the forum, so, hello.
For the first time I have runner bean rust on my allotment. I have tried to take as much of the infected foliage away but am concerned it still may spread the remaining plants or worst still to the neighbouring plots.
What treatment is there, if any, or what action do I take to try and stop it spreading?

I think that all you can do is remove all infected material as soon as you see it and dispose of, do not compost it.  Thin out any crowded bean plant areas to increase ventilation and reduce humidity.  DO NOT save seed!

There is no chemical treatment available to amateurs.

I wasn’t aware this existed l. I get it on my garlic every year and also recently on my pear tree but never had it on my beans.
