I had Muscovys, they are lully ducks but get really big, I rehomed them to a friend with a gihuge pond and they live happly ever after in it, my other ducks are small and are happy with their paddling pool. Oh, by the way my little Jemima is sitting on 4 eggies :D due in about 3 weeks
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

Really sorry to hear about your eggs, they really shouldn't have smelt, really annoying to lose them all
My Cayuga cross is a lovely duck. Hope you have better luck with the muscovies and keep us updated on how they get on
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Thanks Kate,

I'm fairly sure the Appleyard is no more :-(

I'm going to sterilise the incubator and start again with a fresh bunch of Muscovy eggs.

35 days to wait ...my holiday plans didn't work well as the ducks won't hatch until the children are back at school.

Out of interest ...can you all recommend a disinfectant that is suitable...
cheers

I got a little bottle if specific incy disinfectant when I bought my incubator but I bet that a standard dettol spray or the like will be just as good.

Thanks Vember...

I think I deserve some luck with it all at some point :-(

Hopefully the Muscovies will be in good condition.

Feeling subdued.

Day three/four of Muscovy incubation....no sign of life yet....

I know they take longer to develop than regular ducklings ( 35 not 28 days) but shouldn't I see somehing ?

Oh Cleo

Don't get disheartened, I did with my first lot of Runners even went to the extreme of getting some more eggs as I really thought the first ones were dud!

28 days later 3 out of 6 of the first lot hatched and due to a v naughtey hen I got only 2 from the second batch :)

Lucky I didn't end up with more or I wouldn't have had room for Titch & Co

Although I would have snook themin somewhere no doubt :D

Would definately give them more time. 3/4 days is really early when you think that they take 35 days to hatch.
Good luck
