As they get older...
« on: November 16, 2010, 16:26 »
Hi I was wongering when chickens get older do their combs shrink slightly and their legs get thicker and change colour? Lula is a rescue hen, we got her March this year, she has come to the end of her laying so we think she is older than the other two, her legs are now an egg yolk yellow, and with the above changes?

she may be the same age as the farmers clear their sheds and restock with a new batch of hens, however if she has finished laying then yes they do alter and all chickens get thicker legs as they age (must be why my legs are now like tree trunks - Oh no thats cause I'm old and overweight  ::)).
Staffies are softer than you think.

Their legs do get yellower too. You must be very observant to notice.
If they are all eating layers pellets and the colouring is not going into the yolks it must stay in the body.

Thanks azubah, that does make sense about colouring, I wonder if under all those feathers she is jaundice looking!
