A Brinsea polyhatch question....
« on: September 16, 2009, 17:09 »
I have been given one of these today for the princely sum of £15!!

I am sure it is all there and appeared to work when plugged in.... but when I look at the pictures of the yellow lidded one (mine is off white lid) there seems to be  a block of some sort at each side of the sliding tray.

Now mine just has a gap :(  so not sure if something is missing or not.

Also I would like to hatch some quail in it, but have no quail trays..... are these absolutely necessary or not.... and if they are, does any one know where I can get them?

Please help me :) :) :)

I used to have a polyhatch, great little incubator, yes there should be metal things either end, this stops the chicks getting into the water trays underneath, is the turner working?
The old lids used to be white, but there is no reason why it shouldn't work.
These do spare parts:

or you could get in contact with Brinsea, I have always found them very helpful:

Hi :) :)

The turner is indeed working :) :)  Glad to know that the ends are just there for that reason..... I intend to hatch in another incubator so hopefully the problem wont arise :)

I am having problems sorting the temperature exactly though.... I have three thermometers.... all reading different temps.

A digital one, a digital one which is part of a weather station and a traditional flat one with the red display on!!!

I dont know which one to trust :( :(

with my old incubators I never really trusted the ones that came supplied so I bought a hydrometer from eBay, but these cost as much as you paid for your incubator, but you put it amongst the eggs and it takes the reading from there, so it gives you the right temp. I have a chart somewhere I will see if I can find it.

Download the Incubation Handbook .pdf from the brinsea website:
http://www.brinsea.co.uk/information/free-downloads/39/
on page 5 it shows you the different temperatures and where to check them, plus loads of other usefull information.

That is great :) thanks :)

It is printing off as I type :D ..... that is my bedtime reading sorted out now.....

Of course the one thing my little £15 polyhatch was missing (apart from the end bits) was the thermometer :(

I will look into getting one to slot into the holder.

Thanks again Michelle..... this forum and its members really are the best :)
