Title: Wilko's
Post by: Sadgit on January 15, 2007, 18:17
This must be the best shop in the world.. I've just spend twenty quids on MILLIONS of onions, spuds, artichokes and various seeds. I had to stop shopping because I was buying stuff for the lottie I don't have yet

Cannot wait to get this damn lottie so I can go back to my fav shop in the world.....

Hi sadgit

I was also in Wilkos this afternoon and saw the same, and the seeds are buy 1 get 1 free, and they are only 39p a pack.  But then I got wondering just how good their seeds etc are.

Do you get what you pay for with seeds and the like (eg poor produce)?

Has anyone used Wilkos stuff before?  Was it any good?

Cheers
Alan

I hear what your saying muntjac.  Settin up will cost a pretty penny.   We only have 1 x fork and 1 x spade and that's about it.  Oh, and bought a greenhouse a week ago.

I think it was an old guy who had the allotment but died recently.  He still has loads of stuff in his shed.. but most looks like junk.  Who knows what I'll find underneath it all...... :?

cheers
Alan

We tried Wilko's when we went to Spalding last week, but there were no potatoes or onion sets in yet.  Got some seeds and yes I have had their stuff before and like anyone's some grow and some don't, but like muntjac said Johnsons seeds, different packet, only cheaper.  Someone on an earlier thread said about Netto's seeds being 19p a packet, but even if only half of them grew okay, they'd still be a bargain!!!!

At Wilko, I got 3 packets of beetroot (OH loves his beetroot!)
2 packets carrots, another summer cabbage, spring onions and some more leeks!

I'm sure someone could buy some stuff and send it to Annie.  There is one local to me and several within driving distance.

I put my postcode into the Wilkos website and it came up with a map of the Western Isles. I was not deceived however and I charged down to Stratford where they now have a giant shop. I bought loads and it only came to £20 - really tough seed trays 3 for 99p, BF&B, seeds, vermiculite and all sorts. I had to get back to work so I couldn't look round properly so look to your laurels Homebase and B&Q

Ooh, thanks for that one denbo,  Nice and cheap seeds and postage, just what I like, have you looked at www.alanromans.com?  they are 50p a packet too.  They used to have free P&P if you spent £5, but I think they've put a little on now, but still good.

If you have a Netto close, they're doing seeds at 19p a packet, with everything from Brussels to Purple Sprouting Broccoli.
I bought a few packs lastyear, and everything grew well, so this week, I got one of everything edible - 3 herb and 17 veg, plus a selection of flowers to keep the wife happy, and me sneezing.

Was at my brother's in Newmarket Friday and he popped me into the local Netto, but the only seeds they had were what I've already got!!!!  and I only go there once in a blue moon.
