see what happens or start again?
« on: May 24, 2010, 10:24 »
After removing a huge pyracanthus and clearing a border I had prepared the ground to extend the lawn about 4 weeks ago. OH and neigbour thought they would suprise me on saturday and I arived back from work to find they had bought some rolls of turf from the local DIY to say it was hot was an understatement it was steaming.

I laid it (well had to really ::)) some is ok some looks well and truly cooked. I have seeded ontop and worked in some fine compost in the hope it may pull round. Its being well watered and is only an area of 6sqm. Should I keep it or start again. Mionf you if this weather keeps up it will all look brown.

Grass is well adapted to surviving drought conditions although of course that normally applies to well-established lawns rather than dry-roasted turf!

I think it's a bit early to give up on it; it's tough stuff and if you can keep it really well watered it should recover.

(Time for some before and after pics Joe, hopefully very different-looking ones!)  ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

as long as you keep it wet and fill in the gaps between the turves as they appear (inevitable in this heat ::) ) it will recover..all in good time :)

I agree. Sod/Tturf growers feed their fields well before cutting so the sod will survive after cutting. But sod needs water and lots of it to keep going.

I didn't realize how active the auto censor is when I used a particular word, not intending it as same. So, let me fill in the *'s with grass strips
