Hello, as some of you know i have 6 chickens and im now thinking some may be cock birds, i have rang the breeder but no answer as yet, and i thought i would ask here to see what you chicken folk think...

this 1 is the first 1

this is pepper, the 1 thats ill, but i have put them on anti-bot's, i have seen her eat and drink but evey now and then she just sits there and sleeps...

the 3rd 1, sorry it wount let do more than 1 photo
this 1 has very small white lumps growing on the sides of her/his legs at the back
and he/she also keeps not sure of the right word for it, puffing her/his chest out and standing up to the other chickens, face to face

Not sur eabout the first or second as  could not get a good luck but i think the third is a male.

here's the 4th 1, how is called ginger spice, which we think has the little white lump growing on the back of her/his legs

and here's 5th who is called sapphie due to her being blue colour, we think she is a hen

and here is number 6 at last, we think he is a cock bird due to him always having a go at at the 3rd hen(pic) and some times at ginger spice, he fluffs his neck out and does a little dance, sorry it's the only way i could put it in to words,
and he also has a strange crown bit on top..

Hmmm, methinks it also might be a good idea for you to read up a bit about chooks  The white lumps apper on the legs of both genders, but they develop into "spurs" on cock birds. Different breeds have different types of "combs" on their heads, with some breeds it is a simple as the cock bird has larger comb, the hen having very little comb. Some breeds a notoriously difficult to sex, which would include crosses from these breeds, such as Araucanas, silkies etc. Also, the different breeds can be sexed at different ages, some autosexing, eg legbars, silbars, some can be sexed once their feathers grow, eg salmon Faverolles, some just from rapid comb development, eg Pekins. Without knowing more about age and parentage, it is only wild guesswork on gender I'm afraid.

hi, sorry the 6ft 1 is a silkie x bluebelle, the 2nd photo( pepper) is also a silkie x copperblack, we also have 1 bluebelle(sapphie),  the other 2 are 1 welsummer which is i think is the 3nd but i may be wrong and  and i cant remmber what breed ginger spice was but the first is a speckled hen called speckles, and they are about 11 weeks old on tuesday if this helps anyone

  some ladies like long nails 
I actually have a rescue hen who has one leg with a usual spur "nub" and the other sports a well developed curly spur of over an inch. What is it they say, it is the exceptions that prove the rule

thankyou for clearing that 1 for me, i can tell my 10 yr old that both boys and girls have it and we will wait and see if any crow or lay, as i think thats the only way to be 100 per cent sure with them,
