Chickens and dogs.

I have 2 cross breeds and one is a terrier cross.

The dogs obviously went potty yesterday when I fetched the girls home.
I left them in the house for half an hour then let them in the run with the dogs on the lead to begin with.
The dogs tried to get in the hut to start with so a little chain yanking and sharp "No"s and they got the message. The chucks are not for playing with or eating.

Later I let the dogs off the lead. The chucks coped well.
A squirt of water and calling to heal calmed the dogs down.

This morning after an initial dart to the house I let the dogs sniff the house.
I let the chickens down and lifted the dogs to smell an inspect the empty roosts.

After 5 minutes the terrier is now content to calmly mop up the grain around the house.

The next trick will to be introduce them without barriers!!!!!!!!

Aaah well done you, youre very lucky cos I cant let my dogs near the chooks. Scooby the biggun was tied up, beaten and starved for his first 4 years or so and the b*****d used to give him the odd live chook  so altho he just sniffs at the pen now and doesnt try to get in, I wont push him cos I dont think its fair  oh and one of the others is a Fox Terrier who was abandoned but its obvious when we go out that she was used for hunting :( she also got hold of poor Henrietta and killed her     so no dogs with my chooks.
Good luck Orfy
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

It's getting to the stage were they all know the rules now.
The terrier (Foxxie) though it would be good to chase the chuks. So she's been told off a couple of times. She's an old girl and doesn't like "Daddy" telling her off.

I'm still keeping an eye and ear open. I'm off work this week so that helps.

All seems to going well.

Now if I can just train the chickens to stay out of the house.
If not I'll have to teach the dogs to guard the door!
