Most Victorian peas are climbers - which particular variety were you thinking of?  :)

the 'Victorian Colossal Climbing' variety is also called Alderman, and that's one of varieties I've grown for the last 3 years  :)

I didn't know that either about Alderman. I planned to get hold of some of the Victorian but now won't bother.

Hi , I grew Victorian  Collosal Climbing from Victoriana  nursery last year.

I had previously grown Kelvedon Wonder but wanted to try something different also .

They grew about 8 ft tall up wire mesh supported by metal poles , as there was quite a bit

of  weight with the stems and pods (loads of them ).

They are  handy if  you have a smaller  area to grow  them in  as they  produce  so many

  vertically .

I grew a variety last year called Victorian Pea and it was dwarf at about 2ft.

Does it not say the height on the packet the seeds came in? Or were they a gift? If so you could ask the person who gave them to you.

I grow Alderman and pinch the tops out when they get to about 6 foot. I think it's un-natural to need a ladder to harvest peas  ;)

When you grow tall peas how do you protect them from pigeons?

I've never had pigeon problems with tall peas. I also grow purple prodded peas that are tall
