Title: making money from moss??
Post by: rozalia on March 16, 2011, 20:14
We have a 100ftx25ft drained mill lodge that we have turned into a bog garden.  I cleared the sloping stone walls 3 years ago of brambles/grass/moss etc.  Noticed the stones were a bit green and found them covered again in moss.  I'm going to take the moss off (as it encourages other growth of things I don't want on the walls) and I was wondering if there was a market for bags and bags of moss.  Anyone know?

People would rake it from the sides of local drainage ditches to use for lining hanging baskets.
I think the local council stopped them for elfnsafety.
If it is good long fronds that knit together you should find some customers. :)

Seems to be the shorter length of moss but I'll get my husband to identify it properly  tomorrow.

Hi

If clean & not treated with chemicals, I can think of 2 uses,

Flower arranging
Reptile moist hides ( Must be very clean).
