Title: Potato Advice
Post by: rustygman on April 22, 2009, 15:01
A work friend planted organic potatoes last weekend that had chitted in her veg basket (not seed potatoes). I said this was a bad idea but when asked why was floundering for an answer. Can anyone tell me why this is any different than planting seed potatoes.

She maintains they were english spuds but I doubt that is possible or have polytunnels spread to the potato world.

Many thanks.

potatoes from seed potatoes are certified disease free whereas supermarket ones are classed as unknown and potential problems for future potatoe crops.

I'm still eating my harvest from last year, so whether I'm misunderstanding the question, it is possible to store potatoes over a long period without too much deterioration  ;)
