Hi,

Nice weather for ducks!!

Can anyone tell me,do you need to buy a certain seed potato to grow baking potatoes?  :?

If so where do you get them from and when do you plant them?

Thanks, Charlotte. :)

Not really, but a good catalogue should list uses of varieties. Try T&M online.

A reliably large tubered one is often used though.

You plant them as for all in the spring, usually.

Gobs,

On the potato debate....  A couple two plots down (took it on last week) have been given potatos by another plot holder... Is it too late to put them in??

They are as green as me it being our first year and would hate for them to just waste em, I have given them half a row of mine to eat as they missed out but I know they are keen to plant as much as they can now....

Thanks

Beth
Its my first year....  an I am loving it!

They should get something off them, Mrs. DD planted some Charlotte about this time of year after we cleared her plot a few years ago & had quite a decent crop.

As for wasting them, it's better than keeping them until next year..............as you can't!!!!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Picasso are a great variety for Baking as they are exceptional croppers with some very large spuds too. :D

Hope so - growing some on the recommendation of the 'hairy kneed one'.

From what I read they're not so hot on slug resistance though, still - a bit of extra protein won't hurt!

on the extra protein point, we had a salad from the garden the other night and there was some left over so I made a sandwich the next day, felt a 'nip' while I was eating it but thought nothing of it.  Within an hour  one side of my face had swollen up and was hard, took four hours to go down.

As long as it went down, have you got the wasp in there still?

Washing them helps.

sorry I couldn't help myself

Might have nothing to do with your salad though, all the same.
