my chicks are  6 weeks old now and out in their run during the day and very happy. i gave them a sand bath yesteday with budgie sand in a cat litter tray, it has grit in the sand. one of my columbian black tails seems to be eating the sand, or the grit i am not sure which, is this ok or should i take it out.

Its fine animal mad, it will all help grind up any food they have eaten

I leave sand down for the geese but more often than not I find the hens eating it

I have an old cat litter tray full of play sand and builders sand in their run, they eat a lot of it, but they like to walk around in it, maybe they think they're at the beach

ive dug out an area and filled it with gravel first (for extra drainage) and topped with sand, and they wont go near it never mind eat it
