I'm in the North-East on the fringes of Yorkshire.
Tomatoes and peppers are greenhouse-only crops up here. Similarly melons and cukes, and any long-season squashes.
Climbing french beans do poorly outdoors, so I grow Blue Lake in pots in the greenhouse and train them across the roof.  20 foot plants are not unusual after they've gone back and forth a few times, vigour and cropping are phenomenal! Grown this way they crop from may to november if sown successionally.
