Yorkie's advice is good as people can be quite funny about bees. Some are just irrationally terrified of them (and some with severe allergies are rationally scared but the minority). I have been very lucky with my neighbours given I live in an urban setting and excepted it was a risk taking them on as would have to get rid of them if they caused a problem.
One thing I have found given all the fear about CCD and loss of colonies is that a lot of people are conversely excited about the conservation of bees and happy to have it happening round them.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Hello Rileyfin
The book to get is
"The ABC & XYZ of Bee Culture: An Encyclopedia Pertaining to the Scientific and Practical Culture of Honey Bees", basically the beekeepers bible
In that you will find everything about everything about bees,

A few bits of info
Their foraging radius is around 1.5 mile,
When moving a hive the rule is under 3ft and over 3 mile.
Always fit a mouse guard at the end season.
Cold wont kill the but the damp will.
Don't site the hive under trees, during rain the constant dripping agitates them (Experience)
Opening a hive with a storm pending upsets them.
Move slowly but positively whilst working with them.
Site the hive in a sheltered area where wind cannot iterfere with landing and take off .
Hedge or panels surrounding your Apiary set above head height, they will depart and aproach at that height.
Do Not oversmoke a whiff is enough to get them to stick their nose in the honey, sometimes towards the back end of the season they can get naughty protecting their stores.
Do not overspill whilst feeding it will cause robbing
Always install an entrance block whilst feeding
Black clothing is a no-no

And your missus and neighbours always wonder what the small yellow/brown spots are on their washing after a Spring cleansing flight

The hobby is one of the most facinating and enjoyable things you could ever do, and you WILL end up talking to them, but its the only hobby that the wife will allow that involves other females :-)
