Should I water my onions?
« on: July 25, 2009, 23:07 »
I am in the process of setting up automatic watering for my veggie plants as we are going on holiday this next week for nearly 3 weeks. Shoul I put my leaky hose over my onion bed? The onions are starting to droop over and I could do without using all my hose on the onion bed.  So I thought about setting it up and missing most of the onions, hoping that they will have dried up and be ready for lifting when I return.

Any thoughts??

If the onions are starting to fall over you should not be watering them anyway. If they have all fallen over by the time you go I would be inclined to lift them out of the ground and either leave them there to ripen or rig up some sort of a wire frame to let the air under them.

They are only just starting to fall oer, but are still very green, if that is any help.

Once they do that - that's it!

The least water the better now.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
