I  have planted my butternut squash too close toether they are a foot apart and growing rapidly now. would I be ok to move a couple of them? or should I just leave them to carry on as they are - there are 6 plants in a raised bed about a metre square. I'm running out of space so they would have to go into large pots if they were moved. Thanks.

They really want at least a metre sq each IMO:ohmy:
Have you got any really big pots or buckets, to move them to think that's your only way forward, or, just take most of them out. See what the others say, but I don't think you'll get much of a crop if you leave them all in Sorry

You ideally you only need 1 or 2 plants in that raised bed. They are very greedy plants 1 well fed and watered plant with plenty of room will produce more fruits than if you left them all in.

As said, no more than one in that bed, they need a lot of space. They can easily run 2m or more in any direction.

I would take 5 of the plants out regardless of whether they transplant successfully or not. If you leave them in they will only crowd each other out and you could end up with nothing.

The choice is yours, but if you decide to move them, try and move a bag a clump of soil with the root as possible.

If You have no pots for your surplus, maybe put one plant to a grow bag if you have some where to put them.

Thanks for the help will decide what to to today I hope I can transplant them but nothings guarenteed I know. Its my first year with these and didnt realise that they would all take as well as they have done . Might have to build another raised bed yet!!
