Title: fat balls ??
Post by: Oakdalebirds on December 05, 2010, 13:31
Ok maybe i should of changed the title but my question is this

Can you give your hens the fat balls designed for wild birds ??
only a fellow hen keeper informed me that he has indeed given his girls a fat ball on the odd occasion to give them a treat

The balls in question do contain seeds and insects (meal worms)

Is it safe to do this   his girls seem to be fine

No, they contain far too much fat for chickens, wild birds are ok with them as they do not get fed like ours do and also fly around using up a lot more energy.
