Potatoes
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:09 »
Several friends have grown salad potatoes in bags or containers, they flowered but when attempting to harvest no potatoes were found, just the stem.  Has anyone an explaination for this - do you think this was a bad batch of seed potatoes?

I think they didn't leave them long enough, or didn't give enough water, or didn't earth up.

Earlies need about 12 weeks

P.S. "salad potatoes", such as Pink Fir Apple, are a main crop and need 22 weeks or so - my Pink Fir Apple are flowering, but I doubt very much that they are anything like ready :(

I had some in that have been in about 16 weeks, i needed to remove a plant as it was over shadowing other things in my very small plot and got a decent boils worth but not as much as you would expect for a full crop, they would need more time i would guess

I hate signatures but love irony
