What can i plant now in my raised beds ?
« on: August 24, 2009, 10:08 »
I am just about to pull up all our onions and pots and so I will have two 8' x 8' raised beds avilable.

Can anyone suggest what I might be able to plant now ?

One suggestion we have had is some more pots but I am not 100% sure if anywhere is still selling them? (anyone know if Wilkinsons are selling any !?)

I bunged in some more beetroot, mizuna and a mix of salad leaves (from a Lakeland freebie) in the bed that I've just taken onions out of.
I kept wondering if beetroot would take off and reckoned the only was only one way to try - I guess it depends on the weather over the next few weeks. (silent prayer for indian summer....)

I've sown some Winter Density and Arctic lettuce which I'll put net curtains over and they should be ok for the next few months. They kept us going all last winter, so to speak. I've also got some spring onions and some little spinach plants coming up. :nowink:
The less time you have, the more becomes available.

Just put in 3 rows each of turnip and swede.
Turnip pack says 8 weeks and use when golf ball size.
Going to see what occurs with the swede but will probably just treat the same. Will pick as I need and any others can simply get bigger.

Put some swede we use alot of them in winter for hot pots, turnips and a couple rows of beets.  Putting some winter hardy spring onions this week.  Maybe a bit late but put some curly kale in
