New Ladies
« on: March 12, 2011, 17:00 »
I picked up 3 new ladies yesterday (2 colombian blacktails and 1 shaver) to go with the 3 ladies we already have, and apart from giving each other a bit of a wide berth no real problems with settling in. The only thing i have noticed is that the 3 older birds have not layed today, can anyone advise us as to why this has happend?

Probably just because the status quo has been changed with your new birds coming in.  Give them a few days and all will return to normal.

Did you not quarantine the new girls first in case of infectious diseases?

I've just merged my chooks and I am having so much fun! Get in some valium, and anything else you can lay your mitts on!

My girls laying habits have gone up the wall. They've got a lot more sorting out to do as the chickens decide who's head hen and who's not. My girls' laying is all over the place, but they are now in their second week and getting back to normal, whatever that is. Once your girls sort themselves and each other out, they'll calm settle into the business of squeezing out the eggs.
Until the next thing.

I introduced 3 new birds to my orginal three about a fortnight ago.
My Black Rock had always been a bit of a bully, but now my 'once placid' Goldline has turned into the bully and is constantly giving my newbies a hard time.  They are afraid to feed anywhere near her.  They will go to the second feeding station but my Goldline wants to be in two places at once and really gets her knickers in a twist trying to guard both!!  I hope it settles down soon otherwise I may have to separate them again.
I'm not young enough to know everything!

stick with it and they will eventually settle down - you could even put a third feed station down  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
