Title: hen pecking .
Post by: sussexchook on April 03, 2015, 13:16
I have a serious case of hen pecking going on and I need help. In my main coop I have 7 ladies and 2 of them are pecking the rest of them on there back ends. My buff orpington is baring the brunt of the attack, she is bald half way up her back and is bleeding. I've tried anti pecking spray and I've clipped the beaks of those doing it but it is still happening what can I do to stop it?

Have you tried beak rings?  They hate them, but it does stop them being able to close their beaks on feathers and pull them out.

If you can, separating the 2 bullies will help as well.  You say your main coop, so I am thinking you may have other options for housing them?  The rest will settle into a new pecking order and the 2 bullies will then have to work their way back in.

I was looking into beak rings last night but can't find any where near me that sells them.  I have a friend who might want the ring leader,so fingers crossed. If I have to get rid of 1 then I'm willing to do do that for peace in the coop.

Do check for any visitors especially around the vent.  :)
