Hi there, I'm not sure that Asparagus Pea and Okra (Lady's Fingers) are the same thing? I'm sure someone with a brain will be along to help in a minute...

I am pretty sure they are not the same thing. I would try them lightly steamed or boiled maybe with butter if you like it or are not avoiding it.

They are different, Okra is used in Indian curries and Asparagus Peas are used in stir fries.

I grew Asparagus peas for the first time this year, but I was very disapointed  with them.

Asparagus peas are Legumes, I am not sure what family Okra comes under  ???
The answer lies in what you put into the ground!

I found they don't have much flavour, but my daughter liked them lightly steamed with a little cream and black pepper, or okay in stir fries. I didn't bother with them again.  Pretty little flower though!

Hi, you have to pick them when they are less than an inch long or they make (in my mates words) "the whole of your face go numb" and make her do her broad bean face! They just go tough quick. I like them but you don't get masses and they are a bother to pick. Like grannieannie said they do have a pretty flower. Nic.

They are best eaten when they are less than an inch but I have found if they grow longer than this then if you chop off both ends the middle bit is tender enough. I just pop them in a bowl with some freshly picked french beans, exploding cucumbers (achocha), some carrots or any other fresh veg and steam cook the mix in the microwave for a few minutes (no extra water added). On their own they have a mild asparagus flavour but complement other veg if mixed with them.
