Has anyone grown it from seed before and if so when do you site the seed in trays? I bought plants last from B&Q, but thought I'd try from seed this year
-
I'll be sowing very soon.
I sow the seed finely on top of moist compost and then pop in a plastic bag and keep indoors.
Once germinated it's off to the greenhouse until they are large enough to handle. Transplant then into deep seed tray or individual pots. Harden off, plant out, with generous helping of horse poo.

So not in a seed tray to begin with, in a dark plastic bag bit like runner beans.
Update celeriac seeds sown in a slimming world bag now on windowsill

Sorry, didn't make myself clear.
In a seed tray, then put the tray in a plastic bag!
-
Will they still work the way I've done them? If not I've got no more seeds
-
You're going to have a bit of a problem, I'm afraid, trying to grow them in something that's not rigid and I assume, has no drainage.
-
Going to have to chuck them now
-
Have you got a suitable sized ex-supermarket meat container which the bag will just about fit in?
If so, carefully put it in the container, cut the bag right down to the soil level, and then poke a few drainage holes underneath with a hot skewer - should work and better than chucking them away if you have no more seeds.
-
You mean a mince container
-
Anything that's about the same area as the bag so it will provide support without disturbing the contents too much.
-
Sowed mine last weekend in a seed tray in the propagator. Will prick out into cells when large enough to handle, grow on in the greenhouse and put them in their final positions in early May - half in the polytunnel and half in open ground
-
Placed in mince container, holes through bag and container. Does the container now go in a bag, clear bag over night our all the time
-
DD will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the answer is clear bag, handles tied together, on all the time until the seeds germinate but then taken off completely.
-
Yes.

I used a clearish carrier bag (Asda one) will that do
