Hens and chicks...

hi all,

My babies are out in the shed now, and coming along nicely... I was considering putting one of my hens from the lottie in with them, as i think she needs a break from Harry, but I am not sure how she will react to them... dont want her being a boot... at what age would you suggest mixing the two??

hiya , i tried putting my maran with the babies when they were 8 or 9 week old i cant quite remember an she bullied them right away .its only recently that the babes an big girls have been mixing in the run they must be 14 weeks now .

now they are all in the house together an so far so good although theres tons of perches the big girls are always on the floor when i let them out in the mornnig an the babes have the perches

Why don't you put your cockerel with them, I put a year old buff orpington cockerel with my chicks and he is great, he protects them from crows and magpies.

Harry is a bit aggressive, so not too sure if he would behave.... :blink:
