The first green tomato recipe of the year  :D I'm sure more will follow ;)
they can all go on here..........

This recipe was posted on another thread, but I think it deserved to come over here,

Prakash's Green Tomato Dal
split yellow mung bean - 1 cup (boiled to mushy consistensy)
3-4 - green toms chopped
1-2 green chillies - chopped(for fiery) - slit (for medium)
small onion chopped.
grated ginger 1 tsp

for tempering
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp cumin seeds

oil - 1 tbsp

pour oil in pan and when hot add mustard and mustard will spatter, add cumin after spatter (and optionally if you have add curry leaves - Murraya koenigii).
now add ginger and chilli and toss it once. add onion and cook untill it goes soft. now add green toms and little bit of water and cook untill toms are soft.
Now add cooked mashed mung dal and salt.
add water to lighten it if you need it. The daal should in a consistency of a thick soup.
now taste a little bit. if the toms are not tangy it needs bit more tanginess. add a tsp full of lemon juice otherwise taste the original tanginess of toms.
switch off on the first boil.
afterwards add chopped coriander leaves (optional)

there you go. Green toms dal.
can be taken with rice, naan bread or just as a soup with a roll

I think a mung bean is a bean sprout
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

they are only bean sprouts if they have sprouted

Yellow mung beans look like split peas, or largish yellow lentils........you should be able to buy them in the big supermarkets or your local asian shop :)

Prakash will correct me if I'm wrong, obviously, but I suspect you could use lentils as a replacement

Mung beans are small and their skins are dark green.

When they are spilt as in this recipe) they are yellowy pink , and are the little half sphere ones you can buy anywhere as 'lentils'

and the mustard referred to is whole mustard seed.

Hope that helps  :D
