incubating eggs ?
« on: April 06, 2011, 17:47 »
Hi there. I need some advise please. I have just won some poultry eggs on Ebay. Once they arrive, how long should I leave them to rest? as they will be travelling across the country to me, and I dont know how long to rest them for, as last year I won 12 Guinea fowl eggs, rested them for 5 days, but after incubating them, I only got 2 chicks from the hatch, one of which died!! advise please...Thank you, Gemm x

Hi Emma

I frequently receive eggs by post and it is a bit like Russian Roulette whether you will have a successful hatch as you don't know how roughly the eggs have been treated on their way to you. I have had all eggs hatch and no eggs hatch - it's very much pot luck.
I usually leave the eggs to rest for a minimum of 12/maximum of 24 hours - 5 days seems a little excessive as the older a fertile egg gets the less fertile it becomes (if that makes sense!).
