does anyone know about genetics i have a silver laced orpington bantam boy and wondered if i put him with a black bantam orpington hen what would i get, or my other options would be a gold laced girl or a choc girl. my silver laced girl died last week, not sure why no symptons.

It would be very much dependant on if the gene that is recessive or dominant carries which specification like, colour, size etc - you would also need to know the parents recessive and dominant genes as well.
Try reading up on Mendelian.

Sadly if chicken colour genetics is anything like duck genetics then Medelian genetics just doesn't quite cover it as the colours can overlay each other and affect each other. The Storey's Guide to Keeping and Raising Ducks has and excellent chapter on colour genetics but I don't know how much overlap there is or if there is an equally good book on chickens. I believe that there are some similarities with things like the dilutional genes that change black to grey or chocolate but could be wrong.
