Newbie saying hello to one and all
« on: August 14, 2015, 00:05 »
Hi to everyone. Having just retired from work I have decided to get myself a little allotment and spend some time in the open air trying to grow some veg.  Mainly intended to be a hobby.  I have always fancied having an allotment but a very time consuming job always got in the way, now I have the time and thankfully the health and energy to realise this ambition although I need to do a lot of reading and probably ask a lot of questions in order to get underway.  I intend to get my young grandson involved as well, be much better than playing video games or watching TV and I am a great believer in child labour.

Welcome to the site  :D

Congrats on your new Allotment-I'm a great believer in child labour if you can get it!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Wecome from not so sunny sheffield.  My Grandkids love being outside helping and getting mucky. Give em an old set of tools and corner of your plot and get em cracking.

Hello, and welcome to the site.  You have so much to look forward too, and I hope you enjoy every minute. There'll be successes and failures, days when you wonder why you do it and days when you wouldn't want to be anywhere else, but the satisfaction of sitting down to a meal and realising that you have grown virtually everything on your plate is priceless. You will also have the benefit of exercise in the fresh air, chats with plot neighbours, and the knowledge that you will know exactly what you are eating.  Good luck!

Hello and welcome,

There are all sorts of lovely things on this site, and lots of advice and help if you need it. I'm a great believer in child labour too and have an 11 year-old assistant.  :)
