crying and feel like giving up!!!
« on: May 27, 2009, 16:15 »
Oh my

I came home today, with my bug spray ready to do battle on the greenfly only to find my greenhouse has collapsed in the wind, knocking over all shelving onto all my plants, breaking them all and obviously ruining all the seedings on the shelving! i have 2 cucumber plants i managed to save, and some peppers.

This will teach me not to buy a cheap plastic greenhouse, i am devastated.

Is it still possible to plant anything else out or is it too late now????

Sorry to hear it, what seedlings have you lost?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

:(  You could try the garden centres who are selling off veg plants quite cheaply just now as it's near the end of spring.

Where are you cpl? You might be near someone with some spares.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

annoying thing is that this venture was gonna save me money (credit crunch) and wasting great fresh veg which goes to waste in my fridge rather than being eaten......now it seems its gonna cost me a fortune on a new greenhouse, and ive seen loads of great veg go to waste because of the wind  >:(

If you get no offers, Tescos have some veg plants at the moment.

You don't necessarily need a greenhouse. A home-made cold frame can be very useful in spring.

What a pity.  :( Also try your local car boots - usually lots of plants on there, and veg plants are usually cheap

Tomato's will grow from cuttings so stick broken shoots in a pot and they'll grow back into plants :) They are pretty resilient so if you have bent bits that aren't broken then tape them straight and they'll probably survive too.

I think peppers may also do similar. Also if you have a root ball with a stalk as long as it's broken above the first leaf joint it should shoot again (both toms and peppers).

Don't worry if they look wilted try them anyway as cuttings often wilt initially then perk up.

As strawberries grow from runners I would imagine if you plant any stray bits of root you may well find they sprout again even if they don't make it to fruiting this year.

Thank you for your suggestions and support, feeling a bit better about it all at the mo.

However, will my tomato, peppers, and cucumber grow ok out of the greenhouse now?

Sorry to hear hun. Same thing happened to me 2 year ago so needless to say with all the wind we've had recently I didn't use mine.

I would love to help out but most of the plants I have left over are lucky dip ones that the kids kindly didn't label. They could turn out to be flowers
You have not lost the battle unless you quit :)
