Beware- tomato moth
« on: July 20, 2014, 13:45 »
Just been in to do some tying up and deleafing and noticed a few nibbles on the leaves and a few tell-tale droppings. Closer inspection showed the critters are back. Only about 10mm at the moment and feeding on leaves. Last year they were a real nuisance and spoiled a lot of the fruit. They got to about 30mm long as I recall and can do a lot of damage. Anyway I cleared more leaves than planned and in doing so managed to kill about twenty. As well as letting more light on to the tomatoes I can now, more easily, see if I've missed any. Keep em peeled !

The brown caterpillers are easy to spot but the green ones are not !
I found the best method is to give the tom plants a gentle shake and then pick the fallen critters up !
