Hi all,

I'm not sure if this should be here or in Hen House but here goes.........

My new chooks (4 in all and 2 have turned out to be cocks!!) have started laying.  I've had 3 reasonably sized eggs, a soft shelled one and another with a weak shell containing a very watery white but a fair yolk.  I was about to poach the watery one but it literally turned the water in the pan to a milky colour.  Does anyone have an explanation as to what causes this?  Any advice would be appreciated.

The white (albumen) of an egg is mainly protein. If birds have just started laying the white can be more water than protein so it doesn't solidify in heat.
Try scrambling any wet ones.....poaching will just dissipate the white in the water.
