Just gone up to the allotment in this horrible rain, to find one of my plots is underwater.  My potatoes now will be rotten.  Any suggestions??

i guess the best way is to dig a trench 10 inches down and let it fill up with rain water and then use a bucket to empty it out. looks like i might face the problem too but surface standing water is not that bad

the first plot we had came complete with a deep trench all the way around the perimeter. It filled up with water but so did the rest of the plot. I presume because the previous tenant had used raised beds and hadn't dug any of the earth underneath for years so it was all compacted.

Our new plot is on slightly higher ground. When we got it, just after the heavy rain last month, the ground around each bed was waterlogged and a couple were submerged. I've double dug about half the plot out now and have noticed after any rainfall that the half I've dug is significantly less waterlogged  than the rest.

oh and i forgot to mention, the trench may well help to reduce any flooding, but if the plot does still flood, please remember where your trench is! I kept falling into mine.

They may not be rotten if the flooding is only temporary.
