I only grew LC and Rocket last year and the reason why I`m trying several varieties this year is because of reccomendations on this forum!

Darn me, I almost picked up some Anya as well, but they were prepacked, and I knew I wouldn`t have room for another two kilos of seed. I could have found another allotmenter to go halves with I suppose.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

Our local poundland have a couple of varieties but if you want a good choice of varieties, Garden Organic seem to be best for postage- Only £1 if your order is under £12.

Mine just arrived this morning- colleen, valor and cosmos. :)

Our allotment association

Weston Southampton £3.00 current membership for the year

Allows you a reduction of I believe 10 per cent off all packet seeds

And the seed potatoe price list for most types

£1.25 for a kilo, £2.40 for 2 kilos, £3.45 for 3 kilos, £6.80 for 6 kilos and £9.90 for 9 kilos

9 kilos enough for six rows across an allotment

That's where I get mine, they have a good selection for those who can't get to a potato day or who don't have a large nursery or garden centre within sensible travelling distance. I receommended them to someone this week for their Lady Christl, but apparently they are out of stock already.

If I may add another question?

When you buy seed potatoes loose and pay for them by weight, What is the better deal?
Ten large ones or twenty smaller ones?
Is there any difference in yields between small seeds or large?
I hope that makes sense!

Unless they are very tiny, it should not make much difference.

Yield seems to be more driven by variety, cultivation and weather issues. The number of chits/shoots is for example, that show growers fiddle with. Around egg size, any similarly sized seed will be fine for planting.

i just go to my local potato farmer or agricultural supplier the going rate for seed potatoes is a 50kg bag for £15 which you can then share out amongst your friends, if you went down the route of the ordinary seed companies with their fancy catalogues and dick turpin prices you would be out a fortune

That's all well and good, if you want to grow a lot of one variety.

Most folk on this forum like to diversify.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Have a good look at the Thompson and Morgan site.
They have a huge selection of early, 2nd early and maincrop.
For many of them they are charging £2.99 for 20 tubers.
My 10 allotment rows came to £33. (my earlies are in flower pots, bought dearer elsewhere.)
Orders over £30 had some special offers on flowers which I accepted.
3 pkts of seeds and the order was over £50 and P&P free.
Look for the multiple offers. 3 different types at a much reduced price.
