Pretty Pansies ?
« on: April 07, 2011, 11:57 »
Something is eating my lovely girls.  I think they are being got at as buds, and when they go into full flower they are all  ragged around the edge of their faces.
I wonder if it could be ants, or woodlice.   I have put down slug pellets and ant-powder around them, but I wonder if you have any more ideas, what is causing this.  Thanks, regards,  Mrs Bouquet

Birds?

I know a lot of birds eat flowers and have seen the pheasant happily munching on my daffs before now.

thanks for your replies, i have looked with a magnifying glass, and the buds seem to have tiny little holes in them, like a needle hole.  Does this narrow it down ?
I have just been looking at them again, and saw an EARWIG going underground.  If you think he might be the critter, how do I get rid of them - help -  Mrs B  :D

Earwigs may well be the cause.  Easiest way to get rid of them is to put some garden canes in the ground and stuff some straw in a plant pot and then hang it upside down on the top of the cane.  In theory the earwigs will go and make home in the plant pots and you can then take the plant pots and do what you want with the earwigs - move them to another place or drown them.
